Bimmer Bulletin: BMW Expands Electric Frontier with Tesla Supercharger Access

In a groundbreaking move that underscores its commitment to electrification, BMW of North America, in conjunction with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars NA, has announced an electrifying partnership that's set to redefine the EV charging landscape. Beginning in early 2025, drivers of BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce electric vehicles equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) in the U.S. and Canada will be able to juice up their rides at select Tesla Supercharger stations.

This pivotal decision comes at a time when BMW's electric fleet is expanding at a rapid pace, with six fully electric models from BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce currently available in the U.S. market. "It is our top priority to ensure that our drivers have easy access to reliable, fast charging,” stated Sebastian Mackensen, President & CEO, BMW of North America. He emphasized that this alliance epitomizes BMW's unwavering dedication to enhancing the charging experience for its customers.

In the spirit of synergy and seamless integration, the two automotive giants will join forces over the next few months to refine the customer experience. This collaboration aims to facilitate BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce drivers in effortlessly locating available Superchargers via their vehicle’s display and processing payments through their brand-specific apps.

Adding another layer to this strategic partnership, the BMW Group has also pledged to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its electric vehicles in the U.S. and Canada from 2025 onwards.

However, this collaboration with Tesla is just one of the many steps BMW NA is taking to supercharge the EV charging infrastructure. The company recently unveiled plans to spearhead a joint venture with six other automakers. This ambitious initiative aims to roll out a staggering 30,000 new chargers in key metropolitan areas and along essential highways. These chargers, compatible with the CCS or NACS charging standards, will be available to all electric vehicle drivers, irrespective of their brand allegiance.

With such strategic moves, BMW continues to solidify its stance as a frontrunner in the electric vehicle revolution, always pushing the boundaries and driving innovation for a greener tomorrow.
