Auction Picks: The Blue Evolution Star - 1988 BMW M3 Evolution II

Ladies and gentlemen, gearheads and auction aficionados, buckle up because we have a gem on our hands, and the clock is ticking! As the sands of time slip through the hourglass, the Bring a Trailer auction for this mesmerizing 1988 BMW M3 Evolution II is about to hit the final stretch. With the current bid sitting at a cool $90,000 and just under 5 hours left on the clock, this is where the real action begins.
What we have here is not just any M3, but number 463 out of the 500 Evolution II specimens ever produced. A rare bird, indeed! Originally a French-market beauty, it made its way to the US from Germany back in 2014. Dressed to impress in Macau Blue Metallic, paired with a gray Uberkaro cloth and leather interior, it’s as if this E30 M3 took a sip from the Fountain of Youth.

Under the hood purrs a 2.3-liter S14 inline-four, mated to a dogleg five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, making every gear shift a moment to savor. It’s rolling on 16” basketweave wheels, and boasts both front and rear spoilers, sport seats, and a host of other goodies. Service records show love and care, with recent additions including a Mason Engineering strut brace, Bilstein dampers, and protective paint film applied to keep it looking sharp.

Acquired by the selling dealer in 2023, this E30 M3 Evolution II is ready to find its new home. It comes complete with a removed M-Tech I steering wheel, a treasure trove of manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean Texas title.
Let’s talk about what makes the Evolution II special. BMW upped the ante with increased power, revised bodywork, and lighter side and rear glass compared to the standard E30 M3. This particular model, an Evolution II, left the factory shining in Macau Blue, featuring brake cooling ducts, amber inner headlight lenses, headlight washers, and twin exhaust outlets. The wheels are a story in themselves – silver 16″ basketweaves, installed in 2014, wrapped in Dunlop Direzza Z3 tires.
Inside, it’s a symphony of sport and luxury. Manually adjustable front sport seats, an onboard computer, a Sony head unit, and power everything. But it's the little details, like the creasing on the driver’s seat, that tell a story of love and miles well spent.

The clock’s ticking, the bids are flying, and the question on everyone’s mind is, who will be the lucky one to take this blue star home? Stay tuned, the auction ends today, and this is one show you won’t want to miss!
